Tianyi Pavilion, Asia's oldest bookstore, will be digitized

The Tianyi Pavilion, the oldest private library in Asia with 400 years of history, will be digitized. The author confirmed this news from the press conference held by the Ningbo Municipal Government Information Office.

In the afternoon of December 8th, the completion of the new bookstore celebration and the opening ceremony of the digitization of ancient books will be held in Ningbo Tianyi Pavilion Museum, marking the arrival of Tianyige’s “digital age”.

Zou Daming, deputy director of Ningbo Municipal Bureau of Culture and Broadcasting, said that the constant temperature and humidity automation management system adopted by the new library has solved the problem of custody that has plagued Tianyi Pavilion for more than 400 years. At present, Tianyi Pavilion has already digitized 30,000 books of rare books, of which 2,000 books have been digitized in full. “The digitalization of ancient books not only narrowed the distance between Tianyi Pavilion and scholars at home and abroad, but also made it possible for everyone to get an overview of Tianyi’s ancient collections through online video. Digitalization of ancient books fundamentally promoted the ancient ecology of ancient books. Protection," said Zou Daming.

Located in the urban area of ​​Ningbo, Zhejiang, Tianyi Pavilion is China’s earliest private library and is one of the oldest libraries in Asia and one of the earliest three family libraries in the world. Tianyi Pavilion covers an area of ​​26,000 square meters and was built in the middle of the Ming Dynasty. It was built by Fan Qin, the minister of the Ministry of Defense of the People's Republic of China, who was then retired.
