Ethnic minority armed forces in northern Myanmar have been in constant conflict with the Burmese government forces. The biggest conflicts in recent years were the two conflicts between the Burmese government forces and the Kokang Democratic Allied Forces in 2009 and the Myanmar government forces and the Kachin Independence Army in 2011. However, after the ceasefire between the Myanmar government and the Kachin Independence Army in 2013, the conflict in the region has decreased significantly. So, what is the background of this renewed conflict?

This involves another armed force in the eastern part of Myanmar - the "God National Democratic Alliance Army." After the armed forces were encircled by the Burmese government forces in 2009, their strength was greatly weakened. However, at the end of 2014 and the beginning of 2015, Peng Jiasheng, the chairman of the former Guodan District, re-established the “Golden National Democratic Alliance Army”. Then during the New Year's Day in 2015, an ambush was launched against the Burmese government forces, allegedly killing 40 people.

According to informed sources in northern Myanmar, the armed forces ambushed the Burmese government forces and received support from the Kachin Independence Army. One of the important reasons for the large-scale military operations of the Burmese government forces against the north in recent days is to retaliate against the ambush of the courageous and Kachin armed forces. It is understood that on January 17, the Burmese government forces also launched a fierce attack on the "Gold National Democratic Alliance Army" in the east, and the courageous armed forces were forced to retreat into the mountains to seek refuge. The Kachin Independence Army also launched an offensive against the Burmese government forces in order to cope with the dedication of the troops.

Since October 2014, the confrontation between the Burmese government forces and the Kachin Independence Army has emerged in Pagan Town, an important jade production area. The target of the Burmese government army's offensive is to conduct a "punitive" attack, and the second is to further compete for the emerald mining rights in the Pagan area.
